Munising Ronald "Sam" G. DesArmo, age 72, of Munising died unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, August 9, 2014 at his home following a lengthy cardiac illness. He was born in Munising on February 23, 1942 to the late Joseph and Ann (Yonick) DesArmo. Sam graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School. He went to work at Kimberly Clark on March 6, 1966, but left to serve in the U.S. Army. Sam served as a medical specialist from March 3, 1964 until March 2, 1966. He returned back to the mill and worked in the Labor Pool and as a Finishing Room Utility Helper, Trimmer Helper, Packer, Roll Wrap, and he retired as a Clean Room Technician with over thirty-six years of service. Sam was a member of Sacred Heart Church where he served as an usher for years. He loved the Detroit Lions and Tigers, and he enjoyed spending time with his friends. Sam is survived by his daughter and son-in-law - Kathleen and Bryan Hill of Munising; brother - Francis "Jumbo" (Audrey) DesArmo of Sand River; sister - Ann Greer of Marquette; granddaughters - Amy (Beau) Peterson of New Hampshire and Ashley Hill of Mt. Pleasant; great-granddaughter - Ellie Peterson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald Joseph DesArmo, father Joseph DesArmo, mother Ann Edson, and great niece Harlie DesArmo. On Thursday, August 14, 2014 there will be visiting time with family and friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home. Graveside services will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. Father Chris Gardiner will conduct prayers and the American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guards will conduct military honors.
