Ronald "Ron" Arne Haavisto, Sr., age 75, of Eben Junction, died on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Pine Crest Care Facility in Powers, Michigan. He was born on December 11, 1934 in Negaunee to the late Arne and Aune (Maki) Haavisto. Ron graduated from Eben High School in 1952. He married the former Geraldine "Gerry" Gravelle on March 10, 1956 and together they raised five children. Ronald was a woodsman and a small engine repairman. He also enjoyed working on the Haavisto farm. Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, and providing for his family. He will be missed by his family, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his memory will live on.
Ron is survived by his wife of 54 years - Gerry of Eben Junction; their five children - Janice (Mike) Belo, Cheryl (Gerald) Bebo Bonnie (Kevin) Beyer, Lori (Tim) LaCosse, and Ronald "Sonny" (Holly) Haavisto, Jr.; 7 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; 3 great-granddaughters; 1 great-grandson;; brother - Arne (Mary) Haavisto of Niagra, WI; sister-in-law - Gladys Roos; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis Gibbs.
There will be a memorial service at the Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Eben on Thursday, March 4, 2010. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Pastor Tom Schierkolk will conduct the memorial service at 11:00.
