Munising

Ronald John Miron, age 83, of Munising, died following a brief illness on Wednesday evening, March 6, 2019 at the Trillium House in Marquette, Michigan.  He was born on June 25, 1935 in Munising to your the late Lenhart and Florence (Korpela) Miron.  Ron graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1953 and then earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1957, and then his Master’s Degree from Michigan State University in 1960.  Ron’s teaching career spanned 30 ½ years.  He spent the first two academic years (1957-1959) in Munising teaching junior high English and Social Studies.  Ron then worked 28 ½ years for the Berkley School District.  He taught History for the junior high and high school from 1960 through January of 1989.  Ron also spent the summer of 1966 studying Asian Studies at the University of California Berkeley and the summer of 1967 studying Economics at Western Michigan University.  During the summers from 1969 through 1988, Ron enjoyed his Lake Superior cottage in Onota Township.  After retirement, Ron returned to Munising and partnered with Gerry Mazzali, Phyllis Baij, and Arlene Froberg in establishing The Gift Station.  Ron was a member of the Ahmed Shriners in Marquette.  From 1989 through 2013, Ron wintered in Florida and from 1999 through 2007, he lived in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  Ron’s motto in retirement was the Italian adage: “Dulce far niente.”

Ron is survived by his brother and sister-in-law – Douglas and Amorette Miron of Munising; nieces and nephews – Adoree (George Duquesnel) Miron, Mari Jo (Mark) Sadak, Stephanie (Rod) Killips, Louis (Chris) Miron, and Douglas (Jackie) Miron; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation is planned for Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.  with a memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m. and interment will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
