Ronald Wayne Stimac, Sr., age 77, of Hickory Street in Munising Munising, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Marquette General Hospital following a sudden stroke on Tuesday. He was born on May 23, 1937 in Shingleton to the late George and Eunice "Toots" (Travis) Stimac. Ron grew up in Shingleton and attended Wm. G. Mather High School before he went to work on the railroad. When he started, he worked side by side with his dad and over the years worked for both the Soo Line and LS&I Railroads. On April 30, 1959, Ron married Clara "Punkey" Burley and together they raised their family. Ron loved baseball and was a talented pitcher. When he wasn't playing, he was umpiring and the family spent much of their summers at the diamond. He loved sports and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers, but he was most proud when he watched his sons as Munising Mustangs. Ron was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting deer and birds, picking pinecones, blueberries, and apples, riding in the woods, and just being out with nature. He and Clara walked miles around town together. On July 11, 2012, Clara preceded him in death and Ron's heart was broken. He continued his daily walks, enjoyed his daily coffee klatch at the Falling Rock Café, and his weekend trip to the casino. Ron was blessed with two very special grandsons and Preston and Scotty were blessed with a very special Grandpa. His greatest joy was spending time with them.
Ron is survived by his children - Donna Burley of Carrollton, TX, Ronald Stimac, Jr., of Munising; Michael Stimac of Munising, and Scott (Molly) Stimac of Munising; grandson - Scotty; sister - Judy (Jim) Hill of Munising; sisters and brothers-in-law - Babe Stimac of Shingleton, Fred (Pat) Burley of VanMeer, Gloria Semski of Oak Creek, WI, Audra True of Milwaukee, Dale (Karen) Burley of Chatham, and Robert (Deborah) Burley of Waukesha, WI; numerous nieces and nephews.
