Munising
Rose Ann Benzing, age 98, 108 Cherry Street, Munising, died on Tuesday morning, July 4, 2006 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on April 17, 1908 in Munising to Joseph and Mary (Zajac) Bubeling and was a lifetime Munising resident. Rose went to Westward grade school and then graduated from Sacred Heart School. She worked at the Munising Woodenware, a candy shop on Mackinac Island, and the Munising Bakery. On October 25, 1935, Rose married Clifford "Tip" Benzing. She was a homemaker and they raised their three children. On December 17, 1954, "Tip" preceded her in death. Rose then went to work as a clerk at Hayes' Rexall Drug Store. She worked with both John and Mike Hayes. Rose was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Sacred Heart Guild and St. Anthony's Circle. She was a member of the "Baker's Dozen" which was one of Alger County's first Home Extension Clubs. Rose enjoyed the Senior Citizens Center and was a member of the Kitchen Kettle Band. She loved music and enjoyed dancing in her younger years. She also used to paint, do ceramics, and she enjoyed gardening, crafts, and sewing. Rose loved being around her family and having company.
She is survived by her three children - Mary Lou (Matt) Nikkari of Munising; Bonnie (Dale) Miller of Kenosha, WI, and Peter Benzing of Munising; seven grandchildren - Brian, Karen, Bruce, Bart, Brett, Kelly, and Clifford "Kip"; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister - Ann LaFountain of High Point, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband "Tip", and brothers Frank Boblink and Joseph Bubeling.
Visitation will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday, July 7, 2006 from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
