Munising
Rose Marie Verme of E9566 H-58, MunisingMichigan, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2008. Rose Marie was born in Marquette, Michigan, on January 25, 1926, to John and Mary Barr, both immigrants from the same city in what is now Slovakia. She graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in 1944, and attended Northern Michigan University. She was later employed as a dental assistant for a Marquette dentist.
On May 4, 1957, Rose Marie married Louis Verme, a wildlife biologist at the Cusino Wildlife Research Station in Shingleton, Michigan. She lived in Munising for the rest of her life.
Rose Marie and Lou had two children: Ann M. Verme (married to Andy Martin) of Minneapolis, MN and son Thomas B. Verme (married to Nancy Ciavarri) of Spencerport, NY.
Rose Marie was active in various charitable activities, including long service with the Red Cross, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes and the Munising Hospital Auxiliary (for which she served as president for several terms). Rose Marie proudly served as den- mother/troop leader for both the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts and kept law and order with an occasional withering look! She especially enjoyed being a member of St. Bridget's Circle of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
This brief sketch of her vital statistics hardly begins to tell the whole story of this wonderful person. Rose Marie by nature was a very gentle woman, rarely losing her tempera"a lucky trait for her husband and children, who grew to adore (and heed) this normally quiet (if sometimes spirited) lady. She seemingly was born to become a perfect wife and mom. How fortunate we all were in having her here as the strong wind beneath our wings!
Rose Marie made friends easily, keeping in close touch with many of her school chums and companions, even those scattered far and wide. In turn, they showered her with deep affection and wholesome respect. In a world sometimes dominated by selfish takers, Rose Marie was a true giver from the heart, no matter the cost involved. Her gracious warmth and devotion stemmed from her strict religious convictions, and undoubtedly an exemplary parental upbringing.
Rose Marie is survived by her sorely grieving husband and children, and a sister Mary Ann Wilmers of Gaylord, MI. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews behind to reflect on the life of their loving aunt who was one classy lady.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette, Michigan.
