Ruth Ann Cox, age 81, a lifelong Munising resident, died at 1:45 a.m. on Thursday morning, February 20, 2014 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 9, 1932 in Munising to the late Arthur and Stella (Barrow) Monette. Ruth Ann graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School in 1950. She married James Edward Cox on July 17, 1950. Ruth Ann was a homemaker and was raising their family when Jim was serving in the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge, she attended Northern Michigan University. In 1961, she went to work in the bookkeeping department at Peoples State Bank. Ruth Ann took a three year leave when Becky was born, but returned to the bank in May of 1968. She elevated to V.P./Cashier and retired after forty years of service to PSB. Even after her retirement, Ruth Ann continued to serve as a consultant. Her banking career was more than a job. She embraced the bank family and community from her desk on Superior Street. Ruth Ann was a mentor, colleague and friend to many in the banking field. She was a past president of the Alger County Chamber of Commerce, a charter member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Alger County, a member of the BCBS Advisory Committee for the State of Michigan and a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church. Ruth Ann enjoyed traveling with Jim, camping, playing cards and board games, singing karaoke, taking trips to the casino and scratching off lottery tickets. Ultimately, she treasured her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was lovingly nicknamed Gramma Sally, Rooty Tooty, and Aunty Sam - along with many other endearments.
