Ruth A. (nee Stephens) Latvala Fitzgerald, age 85, of Munising, died on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on June 19, 1925 in Munising to the late Russell and Marguerite (Mee) Stephens. Ruth graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1943. She married Walfred Latvala from Trenary and they raised their eight children. Ruth worked as a nurse's aide at the Health Haven, Superior Shores, Munising Memorial Hospital, and North Woods Hospice. She then went to work for the U.S. Forestry in the office and absolutely loved that job. Ruth loved being in the woods. She enjoyed picking berries and mushroom, riding the back roads and she loved Grand Island.
Ruth is survived by children - Ronald Latvala of Munising, alice Clemons of Munising, Kenneth Latvala of Hudson, FL, David (Connie) Latvala of Rio Rico, Arizona, Kathy (Jim) Barrow of Munising, and Brian Latvala of Virginia; daughter-in-law - Holly Latvala of Munising; grandchildren - Dean, Suzanne, Lisa, Brenda, Christy, Lisa, Rob, Brenda, Curran, Maureen, Heather, Tonja, Vivian, Shannon, Dallas, Brandy, Crystal, and Caleb; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers - William Stephens and George Stephens; sisters - Dorothy Kuenzer, Margaret Boguth, Betty Lane, and Norma Secreast; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walfred, sons Robert Latvala and Kevin Latvala, daughter-in-law Judy Latvala, and brother Jack Stephens.
Visiting time with family and friends will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 1:30 until 2:30. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m.
