Christmas
Harold A. "Salty" Johnson, age 83, of Five Mile Point Road, Christmas, died on Saturday afternoon, December 20, 2008 at the Superior Health Haven in Munising following a lengthy illness. He was born in Munising on April 20, 1925 to John and Selma (Maki) Johnson. Salty graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School and then went to work at the Munising Paper Company. Salty left Munising to serve in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He served in the South Pacific from August of 1943 until March of 1946. After the War, Salty returned home and went back to work at the paper mill. On August 10, 1947, he married Virginia "Honey" Morrison and together they raised their five children. Salty worked 37 ½ years and retired from Kimberly Clark as the Head Fireman in the Powerhouse. He enjoyed hunting small game with his children, fishing, ice fishing, and snowmobiling. Salty loved golfing with Honey and his friends. He scored two holes in one and told his family and friends, "The first one was luck, the second one was skill." He and Honey enjoyed traveling together and often golfed during those travels. Salty was a great tease to his grandchildren. He and Honey were married over fifty-eight years when she preceded him on death on January 3, 2006.

Salty is survived by his five children - Linda (Tim) Edens of Cartersville, GA, Karen (Joe) Case of Howell, MI, Larry (Milly) Johnson of Munising, Randy (Tari) Johnson of Munising, and Gail (Bob) Prunick of Munising; ten grandchildren - Stacy, James, Christopher, Heather, Nicole, Amber, Brent, Nathan, Jeremy, and Erin; ten "Grape" grandchildren - Cheyenne, Jon, Alicia, Andrew, Kyle, Alyssa, Cienna, Andrew, Cadence, and Jordyn; sister - Irene Bonner of AuTrain; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Honey, and sister Elaine Johnson.
