Sandra "Sandi" Charboneau, age 80, of Grayling and formerly of Munising, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 15, 2025. She was born on April 13, 1944, in Cheboygan, Michigan, the sixth of seven children to Lawrence and Agnes (Hebert) Charboneau.
Sandi spent her early years in the Munising area before moving to California with her family as a teenager. She attended high school at Baldwin Park High School (CA) and went on to work in various roles throughout her life, including as an Operating Room Technician, Snowshoe Production Worker, and School Food Service Worker. After retiring, she found joy in volunteering as a school aide, where she loved working with children. In her free time, Sandi was passionate about crafting and sewing, creating beautiful pieces that brought happiness to those around her.
She is survived by her children: John Contreras of Gaylord, Jim (Alynne Bankston) Contreras of Anchorage, AK, Jeff (Mary) Contreras of Munising, Joe Contreras of Wauseon, OH, and Mike Kirmo of Grayling; grandchildren: Jill, Joey (Talia), Cade, Emily, Julianna, and Josephine Contreras, Leah Kirmo, and George Brisson (Krystal Maki); great-grandchildren: Kyley and Ilyas Contreras and Connor Maki; siblings: Dale (Connie) Charboneau of Munising, Gary (Barbara) Charboneau of Pollock Pines, CA, and Larry Charboneau of Chatham; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Agnes; infant sons, David and Duane; siblings, Dorothy Bourgeois, Joyce McGrath, and Robert Charboneau; brothers-in-law, John Bourgeois and Benny McGrath; and former husband, Michael Kirmo.
Honoring Sandi’s wishes, no formal services will be held. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Sandi's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Heartland Hospice, especially Jessica, Liz, and Chaplain Dave, for their compassionate care and support. Sandi will be remembered for her kind heart, creativity, and dedication to her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
