Scott "Scooter" Michael Leppanen, age 46, of Eben, died unexpectedly on Sunday evening, December 21, 2008 at the Munising Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 22, 1962 in Marquette to Michael and Flora (Koch) Leppanen. Scott was raised in the Eben area and graduated from Eben High School in 1981. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard for six years. Scott worked out West in Wyoming in the oil fields and then at Kohler in Wisconsin. He returned to the area ten years ago. Scott was a free spirit and when he was younger, he was a naturally gifted athlete. He especially enjoyed the winter sports of skiing and skating and took full advantage of the surroundings when he was out West. Scott also enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at camp, and having a good time.
Scott is survived by his parents - Mike and Flora of Eben; brother - Greg (Dawn) Leppanen of Eben; grandmother - Joan Leppanen of Chatham; nieces and nephews - Michael, Luke, Laurie, and Maria; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents Willard Leppanen and Rachel and Rueben Koch.
