Kiva
Shirley P. Haynes, age 78, of Kiva, died unexpectedly at her home on Friday, October 3, 2014 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Munising to the late Louis and Goldie (Perry) Humphrey on October 21, 1935. Shirley attended Wm. G. Mather High School and on April 11, 1953 married Leonard A. Haynes. She worked as a nurse's aide at Munising's hospital while Len served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Shirley also worked at St. Mary's and St. Luke's Hospitals in Marquette. She and Len moved to Kiva in 1980 and they enjoyed doing everything together. They took rides in the woods in their Jeep, camped, and occasionally fished together. Shirley was an extremely good cook and baker. She was a talented crocheter and won ribbons at the U.P. and Alger County Fairs.
She is survived by her husband of over sixty-one years and best friend - Len Haynes of Kiva; brothers and sisters-in-law - Colin (Pat) Haynes of Cornell, Sandra Tolonen of Cincinnati, OH, Lee (Kathy) Haynes of Baraga, and Carolyn Haynes of Boston, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law - Betty Lou and Cecil Goodrich, parents-in-law - Eugene and Catherine Haynes, and brother-in-law - Richie Haynes.
