Sonja “Sandy” Lou Stenglein, age 73 of AuTrain, died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on October 28, 1942 in Marquette, Michigan. Sandy worked as a cook and bartender at the Brownstone Inn and at numerous places around Marquette and Harvey. She enjoyed deer hunting with her husband Karl, and going out and having a good time. Sandy was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and enjoyed going to tribal events.
She is survived by her husband – Karl Stenglein; daughter – Christine (Christopher) Bruce of Phoenix, AZ; son – David (Joyce) Mitchell of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren – David, Christopher, and Carrie; great-grandchildren – Josiah, Cecil, Areil, Faith, Isabell, Jaden, Elijah, and Alexys; sister – Kitty Kelly; brother – Lloyd (Sue) Buckmaster; and brothers-in-law – Bill and Fred Stenglein. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Edna Buckmaster; father – Walter Biggler; daughter – Mona Mitchell; son – Bruce Mitchell; siblings – Holly Beaudry, Lola Tauch, Alice, John, Lawrence, Louis, and Richard Buckmaster.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
