Sophie Ann Passinault

Sophie Ann Passinault, age 90 , of Sand Point Road, Munising, entered eternal life on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. She was under the care of North Woods Hospice at the Harbour View Assisted Living Home in Munising. Sophie was born at a logging camp at Valley Spur to Andrew and Gertrude (Maurin) Kordish. She attended Wm. G. Mather High School and worked at the Munising Woodenware. Sophie started at the Munising Mill on May 14, 1941 as a Sealer in the Finishing Room. In 1942, she progressed to Sorter, and in 1946 to Inspector in the Finishing Dept. As of March 18, 1974, Sophie took on the assignment of Sample Processing Helper in the Technical Dept. She remained at that job until her retirement on March 8, 1977. Sophie married Vern Passinault on May 5, 1956 in Munising at Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed hunting with Vern and Sophie also enjoyed traveling to Slovenia several times to spend time with family. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and she was a great cook and baker of pastries, breads, and pies.


Sophie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vern in 2001,a sister Mary, and six brothers who were all surviving members of WWII - Louis, Frank, Victor, John, Vince, and Joe.

Honoring Sophie's request, there will be no public service. Graveside services will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in the spring. Memorials in memory of Sophie may be made to the Alger County Historical Society or the Sacred Heart Building Fund.
