Stanley Michael Smith

Stanley M. Smith, age 69, of Munising, died unexpectedly in his sleep at his home on Saturday, August 10, 2019.  He was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 3, 1950 to the late Stanley and Betty (Moore) Smith.  He grew up in Redford Township and graduated from Redford Union High School in 1968.  Stan married Cheryl Gard on August 28, 1971 and together raised their five children.  He worked at Henry Ford Hospital before beginning his employment with IBEW Local 58 and retired as a general foreman.  Stan and Cheryl moved permanently to the U.P.  in 2007.  He was a car guy, a Green Bay Packers fan, and he loved meeting and talking to people.  Stanley will always be remembered for his conversation, his smile, and his stubbornness.

He is survived by his wife of over forty-seven years – Cheryl Smith of Munising; four children – Joshua Smith of Munising, Jacob Smith of Farmington Hills, Elizabeth Smith of Myanmar, and Ben Smith of Canton, MI; grandchildren – Lydia, Joshua, Levi, and A.J.; and sister – Linda (Ed) Kelley of Bybee, TN.  Stan was preceded in death by his parents, a son Stanley Aaron Smith, and a brother Mark Smith.
