Munising
Starr G. “Barney” Deibert, age 72, lifelong Munising resident, died at his home following an unexpected illness on Thursday, March 7, 2019. He was born on January 1, 1947 in Munising to Alton and Ramona (Kjellin) Deibert. Barney attended Wm. G. Mather High School and was in the Class of 1965. He worked as a field assistant in the Geological Survey before entering into the U.S. Army. Barney served in Vietnam from 1966 until 1968. He returned home to Munising and went to work at Hartho. Barney retired from Timber Products as the head watchman after many years of service. In years past, he liked hunting and fishing, and Barney had a pilot’s license and enjoyed spending time at the Hanley air field. He took great pleasure in harassing the waitresses at 387 on a daily basis, and he also enjoyed researching things on his computer.
He is survived by his sisters – Echoe Deibert of Marquette and Blanche Brown of Marquette; nieces – Brenda Abbott and Cristy (Robert) Souder-Clary;nephew – Brad (Nicky) Brown; and special cousin – Willis (Myrna) McFarlin. Barney was preceded in death by his parents Alton and Romana and by his brother Alton Deibert.
