Stella Dora (Kolbus) Graves

Munising

Stella D. Graves, age 89, of Munising, died Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Munising Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.  Stella was born on May 31, 1929 in Munising, Michigan to the late Joseph and Pauline (Galus) Kolbus.  Stella graduated from William G. Mather High School in 1948.  She then married Edwin C. Graves on September 25, 1948 and together raised their six children.  Stella worked at the People’s Store for a short time before working at Hub’s Super Valu for many years.  She enjoyed knitting, golfing, and picking berries.  Stella was a fantastic baker, making pies with the berries she had picked and delicious cinnamon rolls.  She was involved with the Red Hat Society and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Sacred Heart Church.

Stella is survived by her children – Edwin (Jill) Graves, Jr. of Moran, MI, Thomas (Kim) Graves of Munising, Paula (Brian) Bauman of Marquette, Karl Graves of Munising, and Mary Ann (Leon) Howard of VanMeer; grandchildren – Aaron (Sue), Adam (Abi), Amanda (Jason), Donielle, Andrea (Craig), Liz, John, Jason, Steven, and Tricia (Brandon); great-grandchildren – Charles, Henry, Ainsley, Averie, Archer, Marin, Delaney, Samuel, Andrew, Trey, Ava, Destiny, and Camryn; sister – Ce Ce Wakiewicz; brother – Walter (Katherine) Kolbus; in-laws – Hilda Graves, Mary Sanders, Donald (Judy) Graves, and Patty (Rod) Ward, and Leo Anecki ; and numerous nieces and nephews;  she was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Pauline, husband Ed, son Steven Graves; siblings – John (Dorothy) Kolbus, Mary (Joe) Blondeau, Ann (George) Wise, Stanley (Margaret) Kolbus, Rose (Chet) Poppa, Joseph (Phyllis) Kolbus, and Julia (“Steve”) Stevenson; in-laws – Fred Walkiewicz, Robert Graves, Viola Mae Anecki, Roy (Jean) Graves, Rich (Anne) Graves, Ron (Debbie) Graves, Joe (Ida) Graves, Irene (Harold) Brock, Leona (Blair) Kroupa, Vivian (Art) Normand, Mert Brown, Eva (Bill) Robare, Ida Scoon, and infant brother Raymond.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and Deacon Jim Brown will conduct a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Fr.  Chris Gardiner will conduct Stella’s funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 12:10 p.m. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.
