Wetmore
Thelma Fay West, age 97, formerly of Wetmore, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. Thelma was born September 23, 1910, in Greenup County, Kentucky to the late Michael and Effie (Aurthur) Flake. She married Clark Randolph West on September 22, 1949 in Gaylord, Michigan. They were married over 40 years when he preceded her in death on May 22, 1989. Thelma lived in Wetmore for 50 years, where she was active in the Farm Bureau, and attended the Munising Baptist Church. Thelma liked knitting and quilting, and enjoyed her time with her family and friends. While working as a waitress at the Red Wood Steak House in Lewiston, MI, Thelma served dinner to Henry Ford.
Thelma is survived by her brother Madison Flake of Mancilona, MI; nephews - Lonnie (Barbara) Flake of Mancilona, MI and Al Flake of St. Port, FL; niece- Sandy (Stanley) Groner of Kalkaska, MI, plus many more nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Clark and her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her brothers - Lester Max Flake, Clyde Flake, Roy Flake, Jimmy Flake and his wife Arlene, and a nephew Glen Flake.
There will be a graveside service held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Munising Township Cemetery in Wetmore. Services will be conducted by Pastor Jason LaFlamme.
