Theodore "Ted" Scholtes II, age 83, of N6391 Knox Street, Munising, died on Sunday evening, February 7, 2010 at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette following a lengthy illness. He was born on April 21, 1926 to Dr. Theodore and Alice (Berube) Scholtes. Ted graduated from Sacred Heart School and then attended Wm. G. Mather High School. He left school and joined the U.S. Navy from July 12, 1944 until May 13, 1946. Ted served in the Asiatic Pacific Area. When WWII was over, he finished school and then went to work at Kimberly Clark on July 14, 1947. Ted worked in the Machine Room, Beater Room and then the Technical Department. He was the Sample Processor at the time of his retirement on June 1, 1987 after completing over 39 ½ years of service. Ted had married Joy Loewer on June 21, 1951. They were married over 57 years when she preceded him in death on October 19, 2008. Ted was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the Munising Lions Club where he served as the Chairman of Eye Bank, the Munising Senior Citizens, the Munising Township Fire Department and the American Legion. Ted enjoyed talking to people and helping people. Even after he was unable to speak, he always had a smile on his face and was able to sing "You Are My Sunshine."
Ted is survived by his children - Linda Scholtes of Munising and Henry Scholtes of Manistee; niece - Mary Sue Nolan and numerous other nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law - Jim Chopp of Marine City. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joy, brothers John and Joseph Scholtes, and sisters Gretchen Ocaumpaugh, Kate Anderson, Liz Hall, Alice Mary Scholtes, Sue Shaffstall, Therese Chopp, and Ann Thompson.
A Memorial Mass and Veterans Services will be celebrated at Sacred Heart on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Ted's family would like to extend a huge thank you to Jacobetti - especially to Fred of 1 West, Ted's roommate Gary, and all of the friends and relatives that sent cards and visited over the years.
