Thomas A. Norman, age 65, of Bay City and formerly of Chatham, died on Wednesday, September 6, 2007 at the wonderful hospice home facility, Brian's House, in Bay City. Tom was born on May 17, 1942 in Marquette, Michigan to Henry and Helen (Seppi) Norman. He graduated from Eben High School in 1960 where he played basketball and excelled in track and field. Tom ran the high hurdles and held the school's pole vault record for many years. He graduated from Northern Michigan University with a teaching degree in 1964. Tom taught briefly in Pontiac and then went to work for Pontiac Motor Division in their administrative offices. He also worked for Creative Industries and then sales for Griffin Distributors in Saginaw.
Tom coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, and he enjoyed going to the games of the Detroit Lions and Pistons. He was actively interested in his son's and nephew's high school basketball careers and he was so proud of his son's basketball accomplishments for Bay City Central.
Tom is survived by his daughter - Nicole Renee (Brad) French of Lapeer, MI; his son - Bradley Hunter Norman of Bay City; his companion and best friend of the past ten year - Jan of Bay City; brothers and sisters-in-law - Bartlet & Maureen Norman of Brighton, Stephen & Linda Norman of Chatham, and Michael & Keely Norman of Chatham; nieces and nephews - Allison, Ryan, Justin, Paul (Tara), Michelle, & Nathan; and great-niece - Isabella. Tom was preceded in death by his wonderful parents, Henry and Helen Norman. In Bay City, there will be visitation of Friday evening at the Gephart Funeral Home. On Sunday, September 9, 2007, there will be visitation at the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Pastor Paul D. Kelto will conduct Tom's funeral service 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham and his cousins will escort him.
