Tony Del Drake, age 59, of Limestone, died Friday, January 30, 2015 at UP Health Systems - Marquette following a three month illness. He was born on November 17, 1955 in Marquette to the late Delbert and Viola (Jussila) Drake. Tony graduated from Eben High School in 1975 and then enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps. Tony was proud to be a Marine and had that never quit attitude. Shortly after he was honorably discharged Tony began working in the engine room aboard the ships of Interlake Steamship Company, where he still worked until the time of his death. He enjoyed snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle, reading patriotic and Civil War books, playing his electric guitar, listening to music (especially southern rock), watching the Packers, and collecting and shooting guns. Tony was a member of the NRA, Great Lakes Seamen Local 5000, and he attended the Munising Baptist Church and had a strong faith in the Bible.
He is survived by his siblings - Jon Drake of Green Bay, Amy (Mike) Gardner of Long View, WA, and Sandy (Bob Scagel) Vantassel of Fair Haven, MI; two nieces Catie Gardner and Jaycee Scagel; and numerous aunts uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Tony's family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of the ICU at UP Health Systems - Marquette for the outstanding care and dedication they gave to their brother.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 14, 2015 from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Pastors Jason LaFlamme and Ted Jolls will conduct Tony's funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. where the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tony's name may be made the Beacon House, 1301 N. Third St., Marquette, MI 49855.
