Violet “Babe” Stimac, age 90, of Munising and longtime resident of Shingleton, died on Friday morning, August 2, 2024 at her apartment under the loving care of her family and North Woods Hospice. Babe was born on August 25, 1933 in Trenary to Robert and Catherine (Brant) Goin. She graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School. Babe married Charles George Stimac on May 8, 1954 and together they raised their three children. She worked at the veneer mill at Timber Products, as the clerk at the post office in Shingleton, and at the Shingleton store. Babe was active in the Shingleton community, and she was the last of the “Shingleton Moms” who helped keep an eye on the kids in town. Babe was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Shingleton and then Eden Lutheran Church in Munising. She enjoyed playing bingo, knitting, and reading.
Babe is survived by her children – Chuck (Dale) Stimac of Munising, Ruth (Harold) Haglund of Shingleton, and Paul (Pennye) Stimac of Newberry; granddaughters – Amber and Katie; great-grandchildren – Jadyn, Drake, and Oscar; sister-in-law – Florence Goin, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chuck on July 8, 1990, Baby Charles, Jr. in 1955, great-grandson Adam Haglund, and brother Robert Goin.
Babe’s family would like to thank the Alger County Commission on Aging and the friends at the Manor for the help they provided over the years that allowed her to keep her independence in her own home.
Graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
Memorials in her name would be suggested to be made to the Eden Lutheran Church or the Alger County Animal Shelter.
