Munising Violet Muriel "Vi" Mayotte, age 98, of Munising, died Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born in Rock, Michigan on April 4, 1915 to Oriel and Nellie (Allier) Raymond. Vi and her family moved to Munising when she was two. She graduated from Sacred Heart School and then attended Wm. G. Mather High School. During and after school, Vi worked as a waitress. On July 15, 1935, she married Joseph L. Mayotte at Sacred Heart Church and together they raised their three children. They were married over fifty-seven years when he preceded her in death on May 14, 1993. Vi was a homemaker and a caregiver. She was faithful and active member at Sacred Heart Church. She was very involved with doing whatever was needed. Vi cared for the altar linens and mended and made cassocks for the church. She worked endlessly for the Hunter's Dinner that the church put on in the 50's and 60's. Violet was very proud of and treasured the crystal rosary that she received for her sixty year membership with the National Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, completing crossword puzzles and playing bingo. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law - Mary Gail and Bob Haapala of Wetmore; grandchildren - Barry, Brian, Linda, Nanette, Donald Jr., Kevin and Deanna; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, sons Gary Mayotte and Donald Mayotte, Jr., and siblings Ted, Ray, Ed, Joe, Rose, Virginia, Bert, Leo, Marie, Eva, Henry, Clara and two infant siblings. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Sacred Heart Church in Munising at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. where Father Chris Gardiner will conduct the graveside prayers.
