Trenary
Violet Veora (Gregg) Stevens, age 95, died peacefully at the Troy home of her daughter, Phyllis Craft, on Sunday, June 20, 2010. Violet was born in Bluffton, Indiana on May 5, 1915 to Anna Sophia (Halverson) Gregg and Benjamin Lloyd Gregg. She was preceded in death by her mother Anna, brother Humey, sisters Audrey, Susan and Hazel. Her husband Clayton died in March 1995. Her daughter Yvonne (Gene) Allen passed away in May of 2003. Violet was the mother of Phyllis Craft and Yvonne Allen. She was the grandmother to four grandchildren - Jason Craft, Holly Townsend, Melanie Allen and Steven Allen; six great-grandchildren - Jacob and Gabriel Townsend, Lauren and Darian Craft, and Sydney and Cassidy Allen.
As a young girl in the Upper Peninsula, she won many awards and was very active in the 4-H Club. Violet also won a beauty contest. During WWII, she worked at Packard Motor Car Company reading blue prints, while her husband Clayton served in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific.
Violet had numerous nieces and nephews and she treasured them all. She lived a meaningful and long life. Violet will be greatly missed by her daughter Phyllis, granddaughter Holly and great-grandsons Jacob and Gabriel. She was most recently preceded in death by her very special and treasured grandson, Jason Stevens Craft on June 3, 2010 to whom she was very close.
Violet's visitation and funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the First Lutheran Church in Trenary. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m until 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be next to her husband Clayton at the Mathias Township Cemetery in Trenary.
