Manistique
Virgil Cook "Cookie", age 63 of Manistique, and formerly of Flint, MI, died Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on July 13, 1947 in Lapeer, MI to the late Lewis and Rosella (Lapratt) Cook. Virgil entered the U.S. Army in 1966. He served in the 10th Cavalry 4th Infantry Division while in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1968. After returning form the military Virgil began his employment with General Motors working as a fork lift driver, and retired in 2006. He then moved to Manistique, MI. Virgil enjoyed fishing and spending time with his Labradors Deacon.
He is survived by his three sons - Virgil "VJ" Cook, of Flint, Phillip Cook of Flint, and Sandy Cook of Lapeer; two grandchildren - Wesley Oliver and Nicolas Cook; siblings - Bill Cook of Saginaw, Lucy Kibert of Mt. Morris, MI, Michael Cook of Texas, and Madeline Morgan of Flint; former wife - Bettyann Cook of Hadley, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Rosella, brother Lewis Cook, in-laws James and Frances Weaver, and Labradors Deacon.
