Virginia M. Kangas, age 58, of Summit Street, Hancock died under hospice care on Monday morning, November 12, 2007 at her cousin's home in Ishpeming. She was born on April 28, 1949 in Marquette to John and Lillian (Maki) Kangas. Virginia graduated from Eben High School in 1967. She then earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Northern Michigan University in 1981 and her Masters in Psychology from Marquette University in 1987. Before earning her Masters, Virginia worked for Michigan Rehab, NMU, and Mental Health Associates. In 1987, she began working for the Copper Country Mental Health Services. Virginia worked as a therapist, emergency services therapist, and then in 1997 became their Program Director. She was a member of the Chatham Apostolic Lutheran Church. Virginia enjoyed reading, home shopping, learning, scrap booking, and crafts.
Virginia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law - Carrie and David Brockman of Belgium, WI; grandchildren - Hailey, Isaac, Abel, and Lily; brother - Roger (Naomi) Kangas of Ishpeming; nieces and nephews - Kate, Jake, Cindy, John, Anna, Willie, Emily, Amy, Natalie, Betsy, and Eliina; aunt - Helen Keskimaki; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian Kangas.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and also at the church in Chatham on Friday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Virginia's funeral will be held at the Chatham Apostolic Lutheran Church on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham.
