Munising
Vivian "Vee" Normand, age 79, of 825 W. Superior Street, Munising, died unexpectedly but peacefully at her home on Friday morning, July 17, 2009. She was born on June 28, 1930 in Hiawatha Township, the seventh child of seventeen, to the late Raymond and Mercy (Williams) Graves. Vee went to school at Hiawatha and began working at Atlas Plywood. It was there she met her future husband, Arthur Normand. Vee then went to work at the Munising Woodenware where she painted bowls. She and Art were married on October 29, 1949 and Vee stayed home to raise her children. She then went to work at Timber Products where she was a grader in the veneer mill for many years. She retired from there in September of 1989. Vee was a past member of the Munising Baptist Church where she helped take care of the books for over forty years and was a current member of the Faith Baptist Church. She loved to knit, flower garden, take care of her yard, and was known for growing the best tomatoes. Vee enjoyed being at home with her husband, kids, and grandkids.
She is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years - Art of Munising; children - Brian Normand of Kingsford and Denise (David) Whitaker of Union City, CA; ten grandchildren - Brian (Bobbie), Chris (Jill), Jesse, Tanya (Colton), Shonda, Jerrymiah, Zakerry, Solomon, Derek, and Nicole; numerous great-grandchildren; ; brothers - Roy (Jean) Graves, Bob (Hilda) Graves, Leslie "Joe" Graves, and Donald (Judy) Graves; sisters - Mary Sanders, Leona (Blair "Harry") Kroupa, Mae (Leo) Anecki, and Pat (Harlin) Buchman of Hastings, MI; sisters-in-law - Stella and Anne Graves; numerous nieces and nephews; and wonderful neighbors - Bill and Beth Riordan. Vee was also preceded in death by her son Art Normand on January 12, 2000, brothers Edward, Raymond, Richard, and Ronald Graves and sisters, Irene Brock, Eva Robare, Ida Mischeck, and Mercy "Mert" Cousineau.
Visitation will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Munising Baptist Church in Wetmore on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. David Whitaker officiating. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising and Vee will be escorted by her grandchildren.
