Melstrand
Wallace Robert "Bob" Masters, age 80, of Chapel Road in Melstrand, died Thursday, September 13, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Northwood Home Hospice. He was born on November 14, 1931 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the son of Wally and Agnes (Robinson) Masters. Bob entered into the U.S. Army in August of 1951 and served as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in January of 1955. Bob married Dorothy M. Adair on March 22, 1958. He worked for Kimberly Clark and State Farm for a short time before working for American Steam Ship for 23 ½ years before retiring in 1993. Bob enjoyed spending time in the woods, cutting fire wood, painting, watching the Tigers and Lions, and playing with his dog Patch. He was also a handyman who liked to tinker, build, and do woodwork.
Bob is survived by his wife of fifty-three year - Dorothy Masters of Melstrand; children Robert "Bob"(Sue Johnson) Masters of Chatham, Mark (Dara) Masters of Munising, and Linda LaFord of Denver, CO; grandchildren - Steve (Ruth), Krista, and Kayla LaFord, Sarah, Amber, Michael, and Robert "Bobby" Masters; great-grandchildren - Skyla, Elias, and Leona LaFord, and Callen Evans; and brothers - Dick (Patti) and Howard (Bonnie) Masters. He was preceded in death by his parents - Wally and Agnes; sister - Lois Masters; son - Stephen; and grandson - Marcus.
Per Bob's request a graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising, where the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guards will conduct military honors and Pastor James Ramelis will conduct committal prayers.
