Walter E. Bower, Sr., age 80, of 200 W. City Park Drive, Munising, died while he was surrounded by his family on Sunday afternoon, March 1, 2009 at Marquette General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 24, 1928 to the late Wesley and Ida (Dahlbeck) Bower in Naubinway, MI. Walt was a member of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing guitar, singing, and spending time with friends and family.
Walt is survived by his children - Linda Bower of Munising, Walter (Kris) Bower Jr. of Shingleton, Kathy (Jessie) Payne of Georgia, Wesley Bower of Colorado, Juanita Bower of Colorado; stepchildren - Tony Quintana of Muskegon, Joe Martinez of Colorado, William Baker of Montana, and Sarah Baker of Colorado; partner in life - Bonnie; grandkids - Kathy (Phillip) Parkkila, Robin Vandezande, Albert (Anne) and David (Audrey) Beauchamp, Josh Bower, Jami Syers, Angela and Eugene Campbell, Trent Bower; great-grandchildren - Robby, Ryan, Nicholas, Trevor, Joe, Jessie, Marrisa, Damian, Avery, Elana, Enrique, Sarah, and Brittney; siblings - Steve Demogola, Andy (Linda) Demogola, and Donna (Bill) McKenzie; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mom - Ida Bower-Demogola; dad - Wesley Bower; brothers - Tom and Joe Bower, sisters - Mary Ross, Loretta Stone, Rosella Atkins, and infant sister Lucille; and great-grandson - Andrew Tyler Maxon.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with the funeral service begining at 7:00 being conducted by Pastor Debra Hubbard, all at the Bowerman Funeral Home.
