Walter R. Sova, age 86, of Eben Junction, died late Saturday afternoon, July 28, 2012 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer 's disease. He was born in Brownsville, Texas to the late Walter and Perfelia (Torres) Sova and was raised in Texas. Walter moved to the Detroit area and in 1947, he married Rachel Aurora Weir of Calumet and together they raised their three children. Walter worked in different automobile factories and he owned a Mexican Restaurant in Utica. Rachel preceded him in death on July 2, 1975. Walter moved to the Upper Peninsula to live with his daughter and son-in-law in 2004. He loved his time up here and wanted to be a Yooper. He enjoyed being in the woods, taking rides, picking blueberries, and he was always open to try new things.
He is survived by two children - Barb (Dan) Wronski of Eben Junction and Walter Sova of Detroit; granddaughter - Alexandra; brother - Carlos Sova of San Antonio, TX; and nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rachel, son Michael Sova in April of 2012, and brothers Raymond, Clifford, and Alex Sova.
Private family services were held at the Bowerman Funeral Home and interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Detroit.
