Walter Joseph Szymusiak

Munising / Thompson, MI

Walter Joseph Szymusiak, age 69, of Munising and formerly of Thompson, MI died Monday, August 22, 2022 at the Medilodge of Munising.  He was born o March 3, 1953 to the late Walter James and Rose (Pociask) Szymusiak.  Walter graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in Dearborn in 1971.  He moved from Detroit to Thompson in the Upper Peninsula a little over 25 years ago.  Walter owned and operated Sylvan Wholesale Company where he delivered and supplied the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula with candy and treats.  He enjoyed flying stunt kites on the shore of Lake Michigan, hiking, and the outdoors.  Walter had acquired a taste in world music, and found inspiration in his style wearing many colorful dashikis.

Walter is survived by his brothers – James (Michel) Szymusiak and Scott (Michell) Szymusiak; and sister - Helena “Nena” Reese.  He was preceded in death by his parents - Walter and Rose; and sister – Donna Bloch.

A memorial gathering will take place at a later date in Detroit.
