Wanita Jean Rasey, 90, of Munising, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. Wanita was born on in Lansing on June 5, 1925, to Arthur and Rachel Lauer. She attended high school in Lansing, Michigan
She retired from a career as a secretary in the University of Michigan's Electrical Engineering department. During her retirement she lived in Jonesville, Michigan where she enjoyed caring for her plants and flowers. Wanita moved to Soldotna, Alaska, where she enjoyed watching wildlife including two moose she called Sweetness and Fudge, reading Curious George books to her grandchildren, camping, and salmon fishing. She later moved to Munising, where she lived at Jericho House, Lakeshore Manor and in Tendercare Munising. Throughout her time in Munising, Wanita enjoyed art including watercolor painting and bead work. Throughout her life, she also had a knack for winning at Bingo which was probably due to her lucky Oscar the Grouch doll that she took with her while she played.
Wanita married Donald M. Rasey in 1969. He preceded her in death, as did her only child, son John Van Blaricom; her sister, Pamaloo Shaw; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Shaw.
Survivors include granddaughter Eva Jean Torgerson of Sandpoint, Idaho; grandson John Van Blaricom of Tumwater, Washington; daughter-in-law Suzann Van Blaricom of McMillan, Mich.; three nieces, several great-grandchildren and many friends she made in Munising and earlier in her life.
