Chatham
Warren Keith Nix, age 79, of Chatham, died early Friday morning, September 30, 2011 at the Munising Memorial Hospital following a four month illness. He was born on August 30, 1932 in Piatte County, Illinois to Valentine and Vera (Roberts) Nix. Warren graduated from Niantic High School in Cerro Gordo, Illinois. Warren served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954. He married Dolores Marvel in 1952 and together they raised their three sons. Warren worked in the trucking industry for thirty years with Pizzani and Reid. He started with the company as a driver and worked through different departments retiring as a sales manager designing and selling commercial trailers. Warren continued to do free lance work of heavy equipment through his retirement. He had married Alice (Johnson) Packard on May 1, 1976 and she preceded him in death in November of 1995. Warren moved to Chatham from Gross Pointe Farms in 2002. He married Bertha (Kamppinen) Johnson on April 27, 2002. Warren was a member of the Chatham Apostolic Lutheran Church and a proud supporter of the Superior Central Cougars.
He is survived by his wife - Bertha Nix of Chatham; sons - Steve W. Nix of Garberville, CA, Gary K. (Nancy) Nix of Williamston, MI, Richard L. (Lynn) Nix 9of Punta Gorda, FL; grandchildren - Daniel, Kaitlyn, Jaime Lynn, Ryan and Kassandra; brothers - Kenneth (Cathy) Nix of Medina, OH and Larry (Janet) Nix of Maroa, IL; step-children - Wayne (Pam) Johnson, Mark Johnson and Beth (Cary) Chartier; step-grandchildren - Wayne, Heidi, Heather, Jacob, Jarod, Sara, Sherry, Jesse, Justin and Jordan; sisters-in-law - Vada and Dorothy Nix and Lois Maki; and numerous nieces and nephews. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alice, brothers Ray, Roy, Robert and Donald and sisters Marie and June.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and also at the church on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Warren's funeral service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Chatham Apostolic Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. with Roger Kangas officiating. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham where the Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors. He will be escorted by grandsons.
