Wilda M. Parkkila

Wilda Parkkila, age 79, of Marquette and formerly of Eben, passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 18, 1933, in AuTrain, Michigan, the first of twelve children to the late Raymond and Gladys (Tubbs) Bossom. Wilda grew up with her family living in different lumber camps, and was a graduate of Eben High School. She married Arthur Parkkila on July 5, 1975. Wilda helped start the senior meals program with AMCAB and helped feed many seniors in Rock River Township and Trenary. Along with the senior meals, Wilda enjoyed catering dinners for the VFW and class reunions, and baking cinnamon rolls for her grandsons. She was a very caring and loving person. She also served as the Rock River Township Supervisor for fourteen years.
Wilda is survived by her husband of thirty-seven years - Arthur Parkkila of Marquette; children - Nona (Leo) Niemi of Chatham, Pam (Wayne) Johnson of Eben, Diane Adams of San Angelo, TX, and William (Janice) Chasteen of Gillette, WY; step-children - Lynn (John) Wernicke of Eben and Danny (Linda) Parkkila of Boise, ID; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren; brothers - Robert (Maria), Ron, Willard (Virginia) and Allen (Rhonda) Bossom; sisters Jessie (Ward) Miller, Goldie Roy, Caren (Bob) West, and Linda (Leslie "Skip") Takkinen; brother-in-law - Bernie Takkinen; sister-in-law - Ruth Bossom; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents - Raymond and Gladys; son-in-law - Hubert Adams; grandson - Danny Parkkila; sister - Ada Takkinen; brothers - Ernie and Edward Bossom; sister-in-law Sharon Bossom; and brother-in-law - Norman Roy.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Pastor Paul Kelto will conduct Wilda's funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the spring at the Pine Grove Cemetery.
