Shingleton
William I. "Bill" Besaw, age 79, of Shingleton died on Friday, September 26, 2014 at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Home Hospice. Bill was born one of twelve children on October 24, 1934 in Shingleton to the late John and Margaret (Warchock) Besaw. He entered into the U.S. Army in December of 1951 and served in the Korean War. Bill was a radio man and "part of a ten man killer team." He was honorably discharged in 1955 receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. On October 18, 1957, Bill married Sharon Milton. He worked for American Bridge, U.S. Lead, U.S. Steel, and retired from Timber Products in 1998 as a millwright / electrician. For many years, Bill was the neighborhood handyman, electrician, and Mr. Fixit. Bill loved to deer hunt and brook trout fish and he was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed his ham radio where he went by the handle "Dollar Bill." Bill was a Christian man who believed in the Lord and attended the Wesleyan Church for many years.
He is survived his wife of fifty-seven years - Sharon Besaw of Shingleton; his children and grandchildren; four brothers and sisters, and he was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Shingleton. Pastor Dick Hueter will conduct Bill's memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Munising Township Cemetery in Wetmore, where the American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
