William "Bill" Edes, Jr., age 88, of Munising Street, Chatham, died following a lengthy illness on Monday, October 9, 2006, at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. He was born on March 28, 1918 in Springfield, Massachusetts to William and Molly (Bullham) Edes. Bill was raised in Pontiac and married Irene M. O'Donnell on February 8, 1941. They owned and operated the Will-O-Wood Restaurant in Detroit for eight years. Bill and Irene moved to the Upper Peninsula in 1973. They were married over forty years when she preceded him in death on December 10, 1981. Bill worked as the Alger County Building Inspector for many years. He retired with over twenty-seven years with the County. Bill married D. Jean (Richmond) Anderson on June 28, 1986. He was a member of the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses - Kingdom Hall in Munising. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger.
He is survived by his wife of over twenty years - Jean Edes of Chatham; seven step-children - Joe (Jonie) Lancour of Munising, Jim (Erlene) Lancour of Negaunee, Rick (Donna) Lancour of Traunik, , Buck (Alice) Lancour of Chatham, Tina Patient of Harvey, Dennis (Cindy) Lancour of Limestone, and Bob (Linda) Lancour of Chatham; several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Mary Moore of Pontiac; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Irene, brother Robert Edes, and a sister Helen Greanery.
A memorial service will be conducted by Gary John on Friday, October 13, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at a later date at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham.
