Grand Marais
William "Bill" J. Peterson, age 82, of Brazel Street, Grand Marais, died under the care of his family and hospice early Sunday morning, November 3, 2013 at his daughter's home in Warrenville, Illinois. He was born on September 24, 1931 in Grand Marais to the late John and Mary (Hart) Peterson. Bill grew up in Grand Marais and graduated from Grand Marais High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954, serving most of his time in Europe. Bill went to work for Illinois Bell Telephone Company in 1954. He married Gloria Rogers in 1956 and they had three children. Gloria preceded him in death in 1978. Bill continued his employment with the telephone company for thirty years, retiring in 1984. He had married Dorothy (Kubesh) Jordan in 1979, and after retirement, they moved from Rockford, Illinois to Grand Marais. Bill was a member of Holy Rosary Church. He loved being outdoors. When his kids were younger, they enjoyed fishing, hiking the beach, picking berries, and hunting for agates together. Bill loved fishing, hunting, and cutting wood.
Bill is survived by his wife of over thirty-four years - Dorothy Peterson of Grand Marais; children - Susan (Steven) Cizek of Warrenville, IL, Edward (Julie) Peterson of Beloit, WI, and Daniel Peterson of Janesville, WI; step-children - Charles (Jeanne) Jordan of Lena, IL, Barbara (John) Clouser of Monroe, WI, Richard (Nancy) Jordan of Burkett, TX, Suzette (Greg) Altman of Woodbury, MN, Dennis (Sally) Jordan of Monroe, WI, Jeffrey (Lynn) Jordan of Pearl City, IL, and Brian (Jennifer) Jordan of Stockton, IL; twenty-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters - Dorothy Morrison of Grand Marais, Iva Rubenstein of Orland Park, IL, Theresa Swain, Regina Hughey, and Janice Moss all of Grand Marais, and Jane (Hayward) Peacock of Converse, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gloria, sister Marilyn Johnson and brothers Francis "Dud" and Lawrence "Babe" Peterson.
Services will be held at the Holy Rosary Church in Grand Marais on Friday, November 8, 2013. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Father Tim Hruska will celebrate Bill's Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Grand Marais where the American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guards will conduct military honors.
