William "Bill" Takkinen, age 61, of Takkinen Road, Chatham, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday afternoon, September 11, 2011 following a brief illness. He was born in Munising on February 24, 1950 to the late Leslie and Laura (Ludwa) Takkinen. Bill was raised in Chatham, confirmed at Sion Lutheran Church and graduated from Eben High School in 1968. Bill graduated from Bay De Noc College and then married Carol Krajewski on March 24, 1973. He taught Art at Trenary High School for a year and also worked for the Braamse family at Rock River. Bill worked in the woods for many years and he enjoyed being his own boss. He enjoyed fishing and hunting the old fashioned way without bait piles or tree stands. Bill was an avid reader, a talented artist, a terrific cook and baker and he loved music.
He is survived by his wife of over thirty-eight years - Carol Takkinen of Chatham; sister - Kathy LaRock of Chatham; brother - Les (Linda) Takkinen of West Allis, WI; parents-in-law - Frank and Marina Krajewski of Munising; sisters and brothers-in-law - Patty (Jim) Toerpe, Cindy (Jeff) Tech and Frank Krajewski all of Manitowoc, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Larry in 1952 and brother-in-law Rod LaRock in 2004.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Rev. Les Takkinen and Pastor Paul Kelto will conduct Bill's funeral at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham. He will be escorted by Mike Moore, Jack Braamse, Jim Toerpe, Paul LaRock, Dave LaRock and Wayne Salo.
