Wyatt K. Dhondt, age 45, of Rumely, Michigan, died unexpectedly, Monday, March 28, 2022 at his home in Rumely. He was born on March 14, 1977 in Marquette, Michigan to Henry and Laurie (Silta) Dhondt. Wyatt grew up in Rumely and as he got older worked on many farms in the area milking cows, baling hay, driving tractors, and working on machinery. As a young man, he found the love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and trapping. Wyatt enjoyed building dune buggies and riding them in the mud with his friend Joe Tyner, cousin Darrell, and little brother Luke. He played basketball for the Cougars and graduated from Superior Central High School in 1996. While still in school, Wyatt attended trade school at the Jacobetti Training Center and earned his welding certificate. After school, he moved to Sheboygan, Wisconsin and worked for Amerequip before starting at Kohler. It was there where he met the love of his life Candace Martinez, and they were married on September 22, 2007. They moved back to the U.P. 2011 when Wyatt was hired at Cliffs Natural Resources, and he worked as a maintenance and repairman at the mines. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson, his Willys Jeep, and cooking, grilling, or smoking a delicious meal. Wyatt mastered his own jerky, venison sticks, and made the best chili.
He is survived by his wife – Candace Dhondt; stepchildren – Brandace, Steven, and Abby; parents – Henry and Laurie Dhondt; brother – Luke (Andrea) Dhondt; uncles and aunts – Richard (Donna) Silta, Mike (Beth) Silta, and many other loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; mother-in-law – Pat (Dale) TeStroete; father-in-law - Candelario (Sandy) Martinez sisters-in-law – Lisa and Trina (Rob); and dogs – Cash, Axel, and Zane. Wyatt was preceded in death by his grandparents; uncle - Alex Freberg; and dogs Dante and Harley.
